There are certain restaurants you walk into and immediately know you’re going to enjoy yourself, and then there are those that quietly take hold of the entire evening. Macellaio RC does exactly that, without ever feeling like it’s trying too hard.
I remember arriving and almost instantly softening into the space. There’s a warmth to it that feels instinctive rather than staged, the kind of welcome that makes you feel like you’ve been here before, even if you haven’t. The room hums in that low, confident way, glasses clinking, conversations flowing, the soft rhythm of a restaurant that knows its identity. It feels Italian in the way that matters, not just aesthetically, but emotionally.
The Beef Tonnato was where things really began for me. It’s a dish that, if you’re unfamiliar, might raise an eyebrow, but that first bite settles everything. The beef, lightly cooked on one side, was tender and delicate, while the tonnato sauce brought this unexpected depth. Salty, creamy, slightly sharp from the capers, it wrapped around the meat in a way that felt indulgent but not overwhelming. It’s one of those plates you keep going back to, not because you’re hungry, but because you’re curious, trying to understand why it works so well.

Then came the Fiorentina. And this is where the evening shifts.
The T bone steak arrives already sliced, made for sharing, which I always think says a lot about a place. There’s something intimate about it, something intentional. The texture was exactly what you hope for, tender but with just enough bite, and the flavour was rich without feeling heavy. It didn’t need anything, and yet, somehow, everything alongside it made sense. The honey glazed carrots were a surprise highlight for me. Soft, slightly sweet, almost comforting, they balanced the depth of the steak in a way I didn’t expect but fully appreciated.

By this point, I was full, but also not ready for it to end, which is always a good sign.
Dessert felt like a quiet exhale. The flourless chocolate cake, paired with vanilla ice cream, was rich in that deeply satisfying way, not overly sweet, just enough to round everything off. There’s something nostalgic about that combination, something simple and familiar, but done properly, it becomes memorable.

What I liked most about Macellaio RC is that it doesn’t rely on theatrics. It doesn’t need to. It’s confident in its offering, in its food, in its atmosphere. You leave feeling like you’ve had a proper evening out, not just a meal, but something that lingered a little longer than expected.

It’s the kind of place I’d come back to, not for a special occasion, but to make an ordinary evening feel like one.
